This well-thought-out piece from The American Thinker claims that the Obama educational "stimulus" money will be a colossal waste, and other massive school reform efforts are futile. I hate to give up on Big Education.

However, Big Ed is so hidebound, so stuck in the "correct" bureaucratic, expensive way to run schools,so beholden to the overweening teachers unions, so politically correct to a fault, that it might take some radical reforms to get public education anything like efficient and really focused on teaching kids what they really need to know. Charter and private schools have certainly shown the way to educational excellence for less maney. It might take a true, complete , voucher system to really reform Big Ed.
